Buy new 2017 Ferrari 488 Spider
Don’t forget $30,000 in options. Then add $37,000 in ‘other options’ one of which presumably is the custom Verde - British Racing Green.
Total cost $363,425.00
Then........drive, or rather DON’T DRIVE your new Ferrari. Well, maybe drive it a few times. But don’t go crazy. Keep the mileage under 375 miles.
No, seriously, keep the plastic on the seats, and don’t get any fingerprints anywhere. It’s a damn Ferrari. Look at it.....don’t touch, don’t drive.
Then, when you’ve tired of your Ferrari, after only three hundred and seventy five damn miles......list it on Ebay with no reserve.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And sell it for $255,000 which is $110,000 less than you paid.
Make a note to yourself to not pay $300 per mile the next time you buy/sell your new Ferrari.
To recap: $110,000+ for 377 miles. Ouch.
Edit: It sold, but not really....it’s still listed for $339k on Dupont Registry. Still no excuse not to drive the damn car, it’s gonna be a $50k loss anyway.

Strictly speaking, no reserve is meaningless on Ebay motors, because auctions there (last I checked) were explicitly non-binding. If you don’t get the price you want, you have no obligation to go through with the sale.

I simply can’t understand buying a car and then not driving it. Even if it cost $3k instead of $300k. Why?

No shit? I had no idea, but it looks like you are correct....it’s still for sale on DuPont Reg. What’s interesting is that this car made it into the SCM/ Sports Car Market July issue as a sale.

They can’t really make you. I think the main inhibition is most don’t want to ruin their seller rating. This person probably doesn’t care about that.

The most offensive thing is $1700 for the fender shields.

Colored floor mats with Logo: $ 1,348. Woven out of virgin lamb underbelly hair raised in a Swedish castle by nuns?

His feedback has sunglasses next to it because he’s new, but also too cool for eBay.

The “exhaust pipes” seem reasonable compared to the rest of the list.
I wonder if this was bought by a lucky tech/RE/financebro who just didn’t care, or was cast off by one of the mysteriously wealthy newly arrived 19 year olds flitting around the west coast.

How is the Sport Exhaust Pipes are only $759, but the horse stitched into the headrest i s $1,266??

I thought the same thing. Maybe ‘Sport Exhaust’ means they put a l ittle sticker that says ‘Sport’ on the exhaust tips.

That’s because your typical Ferrari owner doesn’t care about performance parts. It’s a Ferrari. That automatically makes it the fastest car in the universe.
They're only interested in looks. The only reason to buy a Ferrari is to let other people know you can afford a Ferrari.

When my dad got his 458 it had less than 1000 miles and still had the plastic on the other seat and the books and such lol. He doesn’t go crazy with it but he does take it on rallies and out pretty much every nice weekend

He’s dying to get rid of the car?
Seriously though, I just so cannot relate. A Cadillac CTS-V I could get excited about, for a few minutes because a mere mortal could possibly afford one, but that’s my limit.

People who can actually afford cars like this don’t care about anything you mentioned.
Depreciation, lack of driving, pfftt! They got other things in their lives more important than these cars they buy.

This is really strange. If you are planning on buying a Ferrari to preserve and resell, why custom order paint. Also, why keep it for this amount of time. Typically, If you can be one of the first with a new model, and order all the must have options, you can resell it while there is a long waiting list and come out pretty even. I would write this off to tech bros being tech bros, but this spec took a lot more imagination than normal.
My speculation is, rich person is rich because they work all the time. They have 4-10 cars and time to drive, at most, once a month. They drove this car twice, which is probably average among their collection. The F8 and SF90 were just introduced and they have an early allocation. They sell the car they drive the least to make room for the new toy. Wash, rinse, repeat.

In their defense, the fender is actually indented so the shield (hilariously secured with double sided tape, at least on the 360) sits flush with the fender. That actually requires a few manufacturing processes and not just someone sticking on a pep-boys vent. Ferrari options, in general, are hilarious though.

I did forget about that. Which makes the price a little more worth it. Still kinda outrageous.

110,000 is the dealer mark up. It just depreciated to current market value. No big deal. Except to the seller.
